Ore. deputy accused of sex abuse of inmate



SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a sheriff’s deputy in Marion County has been accused of sexual abuse of an inmate.

The sheriff’s office said Tuesday he is 54-year-old Mark Samuels, who was arrested Monday night at his home in Salem. He had been on administrative leave.

After allegations arose in December, Sheriff Jason Myers said, he asked the Washington County sheriff’s department to conduct an outside investigation.

Samuels faces 14 counts of sex abuse and custodial sexual misconduct. The sheriff’s office he was booked in Linn County to avoid having contact with inmates he had supervised at the Marion County jail’s work center.
