PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Willie Nelson has endorsed the initiative that would legalize marijuana in Oregon and appears in a video in support of the Oregon Cannabis Tax Act.

The singer told The Oregonian (http://is.gd/tevyVS ) he was enlisted in the campaign last week by activist Paul Stanford of Portland who helped Nelson obtain an Oregon medical marijuana card.

Nelson says marijuana should be regulated and taxed like tobacco, freeing police to focus limited resources on more-serious offenses.

Stanford says the petition has about 55,000 of the more than 87,000 signatures it needs to put marijuana petition on the November ballot.
