Talking Points: Long live Oklahoma State boosters!

Well, this is kind of creepy.

And against our better judgment, we will report this story — even if it gives the University of Oregon some ideas.

The Oklahoma State University athletic department took out $10 million life insurance policies on 27 elderly boosters in 2007.

Elderly enough, in fact, that over two years, the university paid $33 million in premiums for those policies before cancelling the insurance.

Not one of those dudes died!

If it cost that much for premiums, we have to wonder just how old these guys were.

Then, because all of them are still breathing, we have to wonder, what’s their secret?

The odds for the Denver Broncos to win next year’s Super Bowl were 75-1 before they signed Peyton Manning. Now it’s down to 10-1.

Kind of reminds us of the Philadelphia Eagles last summer. Another dream team, right.

Hey, Manning is great. Or was great. We don’t know how great he will be. But the guy played on a lot of great teams in Indianapolis and “only” won one Super Bowl.

We don’t mean to imply he should have won more. It’s just proof that this Super Bowl thing is not easy, even with a great quarterback.

We think it’s funny that the Broncos had an “introductory” news conference. As if we did not know who Peyton Manning was.

But we at Talking Points, on behalf of a grateful nation, would like to thank Manning for not drawing this out for weeks and weeks. You, sir, are no Brett Favre. And we love you for that.
