SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Police in Silverton are investigating the disappearance of two pocket watches missing from their display cases in a museum, including one that belonged to famed cartoonist Homer Davenport.
Authorities have no suspects in the disappearance of the watches. Officers have said nothing was left out of place and there was no sign of forced entry to the locked case where the Davenport watch was displayed. The other missing watch belonged to William McGinnis, who once managed Silver Falls Timber Co., and the Silverton Red Sox baseball team. That watch was taken from an unlocked case.
Silverton Country Historical Society volunteers tell the Statesman Journal (http://stjr.nl/GXxtDu) that 12 to 14 volunteers have access to keys and the museum has a security system. Officials believe the watch disappeared between Feb. 4 and March 17.
