Tacoma seniors told they’ll need Saturday school

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — It’s a tradition at many high schools that seniors get to end their school year a few days earlier than other students.

This year, seniors at Tacoma’s public high schools will have to pay a price to earn that privilege.

Because of last fall’s teachers strike and snow days this winter, The News Tribune reports (http://is.gd/LYpliA) Tacoma school officials say seniors will not make the state requirement for a minimum 175-day school year.

So they’re going to be forced to attend school for at least one Saturday

The number of makeup days varies because their graduation dates vary. Some seniors will be in school for one Saturday. Others will need to attend three.

District officials say they couldn’t delay graduation ceremonies because of tight scheduling at the Tacoma Dome..
