SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. (AP) — Spokane Valley police say a transient was caught going through a car in the garage of a home.

The homeowner accidentally left the garage door open Thursday night when he ran some errands. He closed the door when he returned home and went inside. A short time later his wife went to the garage and found the intruder inside their car.

An officer responded and arrested the 32-year-old man who had a glass pipe and methamphetamine in his pants pocket. He said the pants weren’t his and that he had found them or been given them by charity.

He was jailed for investigation of burglary and possession of a controlled substance.
