Business name: Ridgefield True Value Hardware.

Owners: Cathy and Scott Hughes.

Address: 104 N. Main Ave., Ridgefield.

What the business does: Cathy and Scott Hughes said their store is a full-line hardware store, with giftwares.

How has the economy affected your business: Like most businesses, the economy has slowed sales, the Hugheses said. Most of the effect was felt in 2008. Their business has remained level the last three years. Sales to contractors have taken the biggest hit; walk-in business has not been affected much.

Greatest challenge: Educating the community that the store carries a wide variety of products at competitive prices. Cathy and Scott Hughes added that the business provides excellent customer service, with a home-town feel at a convenient location.

What’s ahead: The Hugheses are making some cosmetic changes to the store and increasing their giftware and garden departments.
