Battle Ground — NAACP Vancouver Branch #1139 will celebrate its new book, “First Families of Vancouver’s African American Community: From World War II to the Twenty-First Century,” with a discussion and book signing from 2 to 4 p.m. March 31 at the Battle Ground Community Library, 1207 S.E. 8th Way.

Author Jane Elder Wulff interviewed local African Americans including those who moved to Vancouver in the 1940s to work in war-related industries and later decided to stay. NAACP Branch #1139 agreed to sponsor and help publish their story as a book. Volunteers contacted dozens of original residents’ family members for recollections and photos.
