EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — In less than a month the Oregon State Marine Board received nearly 3,000 comments about the ban on motorboats and seaplanes on Waldo Lake.

The agency says most comments support the ban; about 30 ask that the ban be modified.

The Register-Guard reports (http://is.gd/FugdD3 ) the board is reassessing the 2010 ban because of a lawsuit filed by some motorboat and seaplane owners. They say the ban is unnecessary and the state board doesn’t control the lake.

Many hikers and kayakers say Waldo Lake is a haven that should be protected from engine noise and pollution.

The lake in the Cascade Range in eastern Lane County is one of the largest and deepest in Oregon.

The Marine Board could act on the ban at its April 10 meeting in Springfield.
