SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Ian Kinsler hit his fourth home run and Scott Feldman threw six scoreless innings to help lead the Texas Rangers past the Cincinnati Reds 12-0 on Monday night.
Nelson Cruz, David Murphy and Josh Hamilton had two-run doubles, Mitch Moreland added a two-run single and Michael Young had three hits and scored three runs for the Rangers, who won for only the second time at home this spring.
Feldman, who likely start the season as a spot starter and long reliever, scattered three hits and struck out nine.
Cincinnati starter Jeff Francis retired the side in order in the first before running into trouble. He lasted three batters into the fourth inning, giving up 11 runs on 11 hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Francis, a non-roster invitee vying for a spot in the Reds’ rotation, needs to be placed on Cincinnati’s 25-man roster by Wednesday or he can opt out of his minor-league contract to try and catch on with another club.
