MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Right-handed reliever Shawn Camp has agreed to a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs, five days following his release from the Seattle Mariners.
The 36-year-old was in uniform Monday for a split-squad game against the San Diego Padres, one day after taking a physical for Chicago.
Camp is 26-26 with a 4.40 ERA in 432 games over eight major league seasons. He had a 2.16 ERA in 8 1-3 innings this spring training for the Mariners with six strikeouts and three walks.
“Not only did I get a call, but it is a great organization,” Camp said. “I’ve never pitched in the National League, and everything works out. I am excited about that. It’s like a new chapter in your life.”
