Talking Points: Familiar Final Four
Monday, March 26, 2012
What's the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:
Not a Cinderella in the bunch.
Still — with apologies to all those busted brackets and personal allegiances out there — you’ve got to love a Final Four involving four of the top seven all-time Final Four programs.
Kentucky (15 Final Four appearances), Kansas (14), Ohio State (11) and Louisville (9) will provide enough fodder for TV, print and Internet that will make everyone’s heads spin until tipoff on Saturday.
Anyone know the last time two Washington schools were still playing basketball this late in the postseason?
Mock if you will, but Washington State begins the College Basketball Invitational final series against Pittsburgh tonight, while Washington is in the NIT semifinals on Tuesday.
The agent for a back-up quarterback nobody has ever heard of attacked a team for signing a back-up quarterback everybody has heard of.
Drew Stanton signed with the New York Jets a couple weeks back to be the back-up QB. Then the Jets traded for Tim Tebow to be the back-up QB.
Stanton asked for a trade and got it. He’s heading to Indianapolis.
His agent took a parting shot at the Jets.
Using his Twitter account, Deryk Gilmore said he was excited that the Colts would be getting a leader, a winners, and quarterback who is not a gimmick to sell tickets.
Of course, we’d prefer to be Tim Tebow’s agent. He might not have tweeted anything significant recently, but he’s probably getting a lot more money than Drew Stanton’s agent.
