LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — The Detroit Tigers have optioned right-hander Jacob Turner to Triple-A Toledo, one of six roster cuts Monday.

Detroit also reassigned right-hander Chris Bootcheck to minor league camp, along with infielders Audy Ciriaco, Argenis Diaz and Ryan Strieby and outfielder Quintin Berry.

Turner is considered by many to be Detroit’s top prospect and was in the running to become the team’s fifth starter, but he has been bothered during spring training by tendinitis in his right shoulder.

Left-handers Andy Oliver, Duane Below and Drew Smyly remain in the running for that final spot in the rotation.

Turner made his big league debut last season, making three starts for the Tigers and going 0-1 with an 8.53 ERA.
