Area high school lacrosse teams triumph

The Evergreen Lacrosse Club Black Cats registered the first win of the season on Saturday, betting North Kitsap 14-11 at Mckenzie Stadium.

Lauren Hurst scored four goals, and freshmen Madeline McKinnon and Sarah Shore scored three times each as the Evergreen School District team won a home varsity match for the first time.

McKinnon opened the scoring in the game’s first minute, and Smith added two tallies as the Black Cats built a 5-4 halftime advantage. Evergreen pushed the margin to 10-5 early in the second half. North Kitsap scored four consecutive goals to get within one. ELC outscored North Kitsap 3-1 over the final two minutes to secure its the win.

This is the second varsity season for the team of girls who attend Evergreen School District high schools. The team plays in the Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association.

The Saturday victory came after a 16-4 loss Thursday at Kennedy on a wet and muddy field.

In addition, ELC picked up another point from a previous game against Bellarmine Prep. The game was tied at the end of regulation, and WSLA rules mandate that regular-season games remain as ties, so the OT loss has now been changed to a 15-15 tie.

Evergreen (1-2-1) hosts Forest Ridge at 1 p.m. on Saturday at McKenzie Stadium.

King’s Way boys lacrosse wins two one-goal games

A pair of late goals earned the King’s Way Christian boys lacrosse teams a pair of road wins last week.

On Friday in Enumclaw, Tyler Preston’s goal in the closing seconds of a feed from Jack Beall produced a 13-12 win over Lake Tapps. On Saturday, the Knights edged host Lakeside 12-11. Koda Wataka-Robinson scored three goals, Beall had two goals, and Jason Klein contributed one goal and five assists.

King’s Way, which includes players from high schools throughout Clark County, is 5-0 in Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association Division 1 matches.

At 8 p.m. on Wednesday, the Knights (5-1 overall) host Southridge of Beaverton for a non-league match. On Saturday at 7 p.m. they host Bellarmine Prep. The King’s Way home matches are at Columbia River High School.

Battle Ground rugby team is 3-0

The Battle Ground Bulls are on top of Division 1 of Oregon High School Rugby with three wins and no losses.

The Bulls are led by The Bulls are led on offense by Mat Beraldo and Jack Fletcher, according to coach Daniel Simental. Defensively they are lead by Austin Cheney and Jeremy Saia.

Their wins have come over Linn-Benton 35-0, Eastside under-17 52-12, and North Clackamas 49-14. The Bulls are idle until April 14.

Division 1 is the second skill-level for high shoal clubs in Rugby Oregon. Camas tops Division 2.

The Bulls junior varsity team is 2-1. It beat Tualatin 21-13, lost to Lincoln Westside 30-19 and beat the Valley Rams 3-0.

Equestrian results posted for local high schools

Results of recent meets for area high schools in Washington High School Equestrian Teams meets are in the Community Sports Scoreboard.

Hockinson, La Center, Prairie and Ridgefield reaults are in this week’s scoreboards.

Some teams have completed all three of their regular-season meets. Others have one meet remaining before the WAHSET state meet in May.
