A local resident is hoping to increase the awareness of the American Diabetes Association and its mission to prevent and cure diabetes.

Andrea Bruno, of Camas, recently joined the association as executive director for Oregon, Southwest Washington and Southern Idaho.

She said the association’s mission also includes improving the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

“Our priorities moving forward include developing a network of partnerships that will help us stop diabetes and fulfill our mission,” Bruno said.

She also wants to increase resources to fund research, education and advocacy, and expand volunteer committees and roles.

Bruno has worked for non profits for more than 18 years, which has included experience with fund raising, budgeting and relationship building. She served most recently as the chief development officer for Loaves & Fishes Centers, Inc., in Portland.

Prior to that, Bruno was the vice president for advancement at the Concordia University Foundation in Portland, and state director of development for the Oregon Chapter of the March of Dimes.
