Portland-based Lucid Energy on Monday announced the commercial availability of its LucidPipe Power System for large energy and water users, a project it developed in conjunction with Vancouver-based Northwest Pipe Co.

Lucid says the patented turbine system captures energy from fast-moving water inside of large, gravity-fed water and effluent pipelines. The company on April 26 will celebrate completion of the first commercial LucidPipe installation in Riverside, Calif., where the technology has been piloted for the past two years.

Lucid says it is working with partners including Northwest Pipe, CH2M Hill, Johnson Controls, Siemens, and Honeywell to commercialize and deploy the technology around the world. It is working on three installations with the Portland Water Bureau.
