GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — Reds starter Mat Latos strained his left calf while making a pitch on Tuesday, giving Cincinnati another pitching concern.

Latos left in the fifth inning against the Chicago Cubs. A trainer and manager Dusty Baker went to the mound to talk to him. Latos then walked off the field. He was listed as day to day.

The Reds acquired Latos in a trade with San Diego in the offseason, giving themselves another dependable starter. The right-hander has pitched well during spring training. He gave up four hits and three runs — two earned — in 4 2-3 innings on Tuesday, leaving his ERA at 2.41.

The setback comes three days after the Reds lost closer Ryan Madson to an elbow injury.
