PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Several law enforcement agencies have helped in a search for a missing Portland man whose van was found Tuesday evening at a central Oregon snow park.

Samuel Coleman’s family reported him missing Monday evening. Relatives say the 61-year-old man is an avid skier who might have been out on a cross-country ski trip and for some reason failed to return home.

Family members say while Coleman is generally well-equipped for such trips, they’re concerned because he usually stays in regular contact.

Searchers from Hood River, Clackamas and Deschutes counties spent much of Tuesday checking popular ski spots before his van was found at Ten Mile Snow Park east of La Pine.

Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson says the Deschutes County sheriff’s office has begun a search and rescue effort in that area.
