Haney: Woods’ chances at Masters depends on putter

NEW YORK (AP) — Tiger Woods’ former swing coach thinks the 14-time major winner’s chances at the Masters next week depend on his putter.

Hank Haney spoke like a coach Wednesday while signing copies of his book, “The Big Miss: My Years Coaching Tiger Woods,” at a midtown Manhattan golf store a day after its release.

Haney worked with Woods from 2004 to 2010, when the then-No. 1 player in the world won six majors, and he says he still analyzes Woods’ swing even if they haven’t spoken in 212 years.

He says he found it surprising that Woods had changed his putting style, but thinks a switch back to his old technique is paying off now.

Haney says Woods needs to avoid three-putts to have a chance to win at Augusta.
