North Garrison Heights — Ever since Marine Corps veteran Stan Gennick moved into the Kamlu Retirement Inn last April, the leaves around the facility have gotten no quarter. “Stan is out each and every day in most any weather” keeping those falling leaves from gaining a foothold, according to a statement by his neighbors. “It’s the way I give back to the people who live here,” Gennick said.

That’s why the North Garrison Heights Neighborhood Association selected him as this year’s recipient of its “Vancouver Sparkles” community pride award. The awards are voted by neighborhood association members to honor one of their own. “Stan is a giver to our community and never a taker, and his efforts are very much appreciated.”
