Bennington — No entry fee is charged when the mayor of Vancouver makes the annual State of the City speech. Instead, the mayor selects a charity to receive donations. This year, the beneficiary at the March 16 speech delivered by Mayor Timothy Leavitt was the early learning programs of Educational Opportunities for Children and Families (EOCF).

EOCF, located at 17800 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd., is a leading provider of early childhood and family support programs and services in Clark County and elsewhere. EOCF Community Partnership & Development manager Wayne Clemetson reported that $605 was collected at the event — but exposure at the State of the City event was even more important.
