EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A teen accused of trying to shoot rival gang members in a drive-by shooting in Eugene pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon.

In return for the guilty plea, prosecutors dropped attempted murder charges against 18-year-old Daniel Sotelo-Rodriguez of Cottage Grove.

The Register-Guard reports (http://is.gd/AQHHEW ) he’s expected to be sentenced Friday to less than three years in prison.

Police say the shooting was averted last September when the teen’s handgun malfunctioned.
