Clinton in Saudi Arabia for talks on Syria crisis

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has arrived in Saudi Arabia for talks with King Abdullah for talks on the crisis in Syria.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry says Clinton is meeting first with Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal before talks with the monarch.

Clinton’s visit Friday comes ahead of a 60-nation gathering of the “Friends of the Syrian People” in Istanbul over the weekend, which she will attend. The U.S. is seeking to unify Syria’s opposition movement and find ways to further isolate the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad. More than 9,000 people have been killed in the Assad regime’s crackdown on the opposition since last March.
