NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The NCAA may look at a new governance model to address the disparity between Division I schools and the rest of its membership.

NCAA president Mark Emmert said Thursday that he has suggested to Division I university presidents the creation of a committee to look into the organization’s governing structure, which has been in place since the early 1990s.

The current governance model was put in place with all member schools in mind. Since then, Division I schools have seen dramatic increases in revenue, because sports such as football and basketball have generated millions of dollars for the universities.

Emmert also says he expects to receive updates by August on suggestions for changing the organization’s massive 400-page rulebook.
