2 not accounted for after Bellingham marina fire

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — The Bellingham Fire Department says two people have not been accounted for after a fire at a marina.

Assistant Fire Chief Roger Christenson told KOMO News a family says one person was living aboard one of the boats, and there’s a second report of another person who has not been accounted for.

The fire was reported about 5:30 a.m. Friday at a boathouse that holds 10 or more boats at the Squalicum Harbor marina. Flames had spread to several boats when firefighters arrived. The fire went to two alarms and eventually the roof of the boathouse collapsed. Smoke drifted over downtown Bellingham.

The Port of Bellingham says the marina is home port to more than 1,400 commercial and pleasure boats, including charter boats.
