Nine Washington teachers — a Kelso teacher among them — have received $10,000 each in technology grants from telecommunications firm CenturyLink. State school officials announced the grant awards Friday.

Rebecca Fountain, a teacher at Carrolls Elementary School in Kelso, won a grant to develop a “Story Buddies” program for third-graders. The program uses portable media players and Skype, blogs and email for students to share their stories with others around the world.

In the past five years, the CenturyLink grants have given $450,000 to classrooms with a total of 6,550 students.
