OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — As lawmakers continue to struggle to find a budget solution, Republican gubernatorial hopeful Rob McKenna says he’ll unveil an outline of ideas next week.

McKenna’s campaign said Friday he will release a budget policy paper Monday afternoon in Olympia.

Lawmakers are more than halfway through a 30-day special session to address the budget. They are trying to close a roughly half-billion dollar shortfall for the two-year budget cycle ending June 2013.

Gov. Chris Gregoire says there are six major issues still at play, including proposals to raise taxes. Gregoire says all sides see progress but that it’s not clear how long it would be before a deal could be struck.

McKenna and Democratic former U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee are vying to replace Gregoire, who is not running for a third term.
