City finds methadone clinic too close to day care

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) -- Medford officials have ordered a methadone clinic to cease operations within 90 days after the city discovered it is too close to a day care center.

The clinic opened at the location in 2008 and now serves 505 patients recovering from heroin addiction.

The Medford Mail Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/H4Sdoz ) the clinic calculated it was about 1,200 feet from the day care center original application with the city. But the city found it was less than 900 feet away.

Patients say they're disappointed with the ruling, but some say it's in the wrong place anyway.

Patient Sabrina Elliot believes the clinic shouldn't be in a residential neighborhood. Elliot says some patients get their methadone dose and then wander into people's front yards.
