Benjamin Fulwiler, the 11-year-old boy involved in a fatal bicycle crash with a C-Tran bus Saturday, died of chest and abdominal trauma, the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted the autopsy, but Multnomah County issued the death certificate because he died in a Portland hospital, officials said.

Fulwiler and the C-Tran bus were traveling south on Main Street. The crash happened when the bus made a left turn onto 27th. Fulwiler had serious injuries and died later Saturday at Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel.

Bus driver Deborah Knox, 59, was put on paid administrative leave pending investigations by C-Tran and police, C-Tran spokesman Scott Patterson said.

Investigators with the Vancouver Police Department are still gathering information, police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.
