CHICAGO (AP) — The U.S. is sticking with what works, heading back to Columbus, Ohio, for a World Cup qualifier against Jamaica on Sept. 11.
The Americans have never lost in Columbus, going 5-0-3 there since 2000. That includes four wins and two draws in World Cup qualifiers, including a 1-1 draw with Jamaica in November 2004. U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann said Wednesday it makes “perfect sense” to play in Columbus, saying fans there have shown “time and time again” their love for the Americans.
The Americans are trying to secure a seventh straight trip to the World Cup, which takes place in Brazil in 2014. They open qualifying June 8 against Antigua and Barbuda in Tampa, Fla.
