Letter: Animal lovers mourn loss
Thursday, May 3, 2012
Regarding the April 28 story, “Women gets 9 months in theft of bulldog,” regarding Jagger, the dog that was stolen, tied to a railroad track and left to die, in my opinion, there were two crimes committed: The vicious act of those who did the murder and the crime of only nine months given to someone who stole the dog and held it for ransom.
Ivy Rose Svaleson, who pleaded guilty for her part of the crime, will get on with her life after serving a mere nine months. How about Jagger’s family? I would assume their beloved pet suffering and dying in such a brutal way will be forever in their minds.
I believe this to be a travesty of justice. I wish I could do something to change the law to fit the crime. In the meantime, I will make a donation to the Humane Society in Jagger’s name.
He mattered not only to his family, but I am sure to countless other animal lovers. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the family.
