UNC Wilmington hires women's hoops coach

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) -- UNC Wilmington has hired former Wake Forest player Adell Harris as its women's basketball coach.

School officials announced the hiring Thursday.

The 31-year-old Harris is a High Point native who was an assistant at UNC Asheville before taking over at Tusculum three years ago. She guided the Division II school to a 61-30 record.

Harris says she thinks "we can keep moving the program in a positive direction."

Harris played for the Demon Deacons from 1998-2002. She replaces Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, who left last month to take over at Texas Southern.
