ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — The Democratic chairman in Douglas County has filed a complaint against a candidate challenging Rep. Peter DeFazio in the party’s primary.
The News-Review newspaper (http://bit.ly/IR4fZj) reports that Dean Byers lodged a complaint with the secretary of state, claiming Matthew Robinson is making a false claim in the statewide voters pamphlet that his family provided more than $600,000 in scholarships to needy families.
Byers says the money came not from personal donations but instead from a nonprofit organization headed by Robinson’s father. It sells homeschool supplies.
Matthew Robinson wasn’t immediately available. The Oregon State University graduate student is running against DeFazio in the Democratic primary, while his father is running as a Republican against DeFazio in the fall election.
