Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler will have a big-name guest in attendance at her campaign kickoff event on May 25: Speaker of the House John Boehner.
Event participants can pay $1,000 to Herrera Beutler’s campaign to attend a photo reception with Boehner at 11:30 a.m., and $50 to attend a noon luncheon. The events will take place at the Red Lion Hotel Vancouver at the Quay.
Rep. Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, is completing her first two-year term in Congress.
Boehner, an Ohio Republican, appeared at one of Herrera Beutler’s fundraisers in September at the home of auto dealer Dick Hannah. At that event, participants could pay $2,500 to have a “roundtable discussion” with Boehner. The breakfast that same day carried a $500 price tag.
Herrera Beutler’s only announced opponent thus far is Democrat Jon T. Haugen, a commercial pilot from Vancouver.
There’s still a chance other candidates might enter the race. The deadline for candidate filing is May 18.
As of March 31, Herrera Beutler had raised more than $1 million for her campaign and spent about $360,000 of it, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a government transparency group. About 30 percent of her campaign contributions have come from political action committees, while 70 percent are from individual donors, according to the group.
The Federal Election Commission’s website does not show any campaign contribution records for Haugen.
