COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The Seattle area has been chosen to host this year’s Skate America, the first stop on figure skating’s Grand Prix circuit.

Skate America will be held Oct. 19-21 at the ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash., just south of Seattle. It will be the third time the Grand Prix has been held in Washington, and Everett (2008) drew the largest crowd ever for the event while Spokane (2002) had the second-largest. Spokane also hosted the U.S. championships in 2010 and 2007, setting records for attendance each time.

Skate America, an Olympic-style competition featuring men’s, ladies, pairs and ice dancing, is one of six Grand Prixs. Other stops include Skate Canada, Cup of China, Trophee Eric Bompard (France), Rostelecom Cup (Russia) and NHK Trophy (Japan).
