It takes a team effort to win a league title and the Union High School boys soccer team knows this well.

Union won its second consecutive 4A Greater St. Helens League title on Friday with a 5-0 victory over Heritage.

Union (12-2-2, 10-1-1 4A GSHL) gets a home bi-district playoff match at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Kiggins Bowl.

“I’m really proud of our kids for claiming another title,” Union coach Kelcey Burris said. “It was a total team effort. Tonight we had five different players score and four different players with assists. It’s been like that the whole season.”

Nathaniel Cheney, Collin Wong and Jade Willams scored in the first half, and Keith Thorkildson and Tobias Martin in the second half.

Davis Strawn had two assists, with Mitch Wheelon, Gabe Martin and Jonathan Zavala each adding one.

Camas 2, Fort Vancouver 0 — The Papermakers got goals from Nathan Beasley and Adam Allison to complete the 3A Greater St. Helens League season with an 11-1 record and another title.

This is Camas’ 12th league title in the past 13 years.

The Papermakers will host a bi-district playoff match at Doc Harris Stadium at 1 p.m. May 12,

Prairie 4, Hudson’s Bay 1 — Igor Shapoval scored three more goals as Prairie locked up the No. 2 seed from the 3A GSHL.

Shapoval has a school-record 23 goals this season.

TRACK AND FIELD

Camas freshman Alexa Efraimson beat an elite field of runners, including Glacier Peak’s Amy-Eloise Neal, to win the elite 1,500 meters at the Nike Jesuit Relays at Beaverton, Ore.

Efraimson’s time of 4:23.41 if converted to 1,600 meters (4:43.00) would be a national best time this season for 1,600 meters. Union’s Alexis Fuller, also a freshman, was fifth in the race in 4:27.42.

In the boys meet, the Union 3,200-meter relay team of Roman Kirkov, Tanner Sork, Levi Sparks and Luke Sparks won in 7:53.

SOFTBALL

Friday’s Camas-Kelso softball game to decide the 3A Greater St. Helens League title was postponed to 4 p.m. Monday at Camas.
