APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. (AP) — A woman who died in a fall while hiking in Arizona has been identified as a Washington state resident.
Pinal County authorities said Friday that the victim was 65-year-old Mona Mae Baker of Hansville, Wash.
They say Baker fell an estimated 50 feet from a trail near Lost Dutchman State Park east of Phoenix on Wednesday morning.
Baker was hiking with her husband when she fell off the edge of a cliff face along Massacre Grounds Trail. Her husband called authorities for help.
The county Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death, but officials say it appears to be an accident.
They say Baker and her husband spend the winter traveling around the Apache Junction area in their camper and had already hiked Massacre Trail twice this year.
