FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — First-round draft pick Quinton Coples has been held out of 11-on-11 team drills because of what the New York Jets defensive lineman says was “a coach’s decision.”
Coples was impressive in his first practice of rookie minicamp Friday as coach Rex Ryan raved that he had “about six” sacks. But Coples was on the sideline Saturday during team drills with his helmet in hand.
Coples, the No. 16 pick, says he isn’t injured, and went to the sideline because “they told me to sit out and that’s what I did.” Ryan’s news conference was scheduled for later Saturday.
Coples said Friday that he had a good grasp of the defensive playbook. When told, Ryan said: “I like his confidence. The great thing is we will hold him to it now.”
