QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) -- A police official says gunmen killed a senior anti-terrorism police officer in southwest Pakistan.
Hamid Shakil says two men on a motorcycle opened fire on Shah Nawaz Khan on Tuesday outside his house in Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province.
Khan was deputy head of Baluchistan's Crimes Investigation Department, which works exclusively on cases dealing with terrorism and sectarian violence.
Shakil says Khan had received threats from militant groups but would not identify them.
Another police official says Khan had in custody militants from Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, an al-Qaida-linked group that has carried out many recent attacks on Shiite Muslims in Baluchistan. The official spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution.
