Cubs recall Cardenas, option Wood

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs recalled infielder Adrian Cardenas from Triple-A Iowa before Monday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves. They also optioned left-hander Travis Wood to their top minor league club.

Cardenas, who joins a major league roster for the first time, was batting .319 at Iowa. He was claimed off waivers from Oakland in February. Cardenas was initially selected by the Phillies in the supplemental round of the 2006 draft and then traded to the A’s in the Joe Blanton deal in 2008.

Wood had a no-decision in his Cubs debut Sunday, limiting the Dodgers to three runs on three hits and three walks in six innings.
