FLINT, Mich. (AP) — A prosecutor has told jurors that DNA will be powerful evidence in the first murder trial of a man accused in a 2010 stabbing spree in Michigan that killed or injured more than a dozen people.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton delivered an opening statement Tuesday in the trial of Elias Abuelazam (ah-BOOL’-ah-zahm). Abuelazam is accused of stabbing Arnold Minor to death in Flint in August 2010.
Leyton says Minor could only identify his attacker as a white man before he died. But the prosecutor says the key to the case will be Minor’s DNA, which was found in blood in Abuelazam’s SUV and inside luggage.
Abuelazam is charged with three murders and six attempted murders in the Flint area. He’s also charged with attempted murder in Toledo, Ohio.
