FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Veteran open-wheel driver Rubens Barrichello has run his first IndyCar laps on an oval track. It was quite an experience.

Barrichello topped 200 mph during his IndyCar Series rookie oval test at the high-banked Texas Motor Speedway. That came before the start of an open test at the track Monday with nine other cars.

After his nearly hour-long session when he was the only car on the track, Barrichello called it “bloody fast and very, very much different than anything” he had ever done before. The Brazilian says he was truly excited.

Barrichello had a record 325 races in Formula One the past 19 years. His first four IndyCar races this season have been on road and street courses, but the Indianapolis 500 is next.
