WASHINGTON (AP) — Georgetown is promoting Keith Brown to head coach of its women’s basketball team.

Monday’s announcement by the school comes more than a week after a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press that Brown would be getting the job.

Brown has been an assistant coach at Georgetown for the last five seasons, including three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.

He succeeds Terri Williams-Flournoy, who left Georgetown last month after eight seasons to coach Auburn. The Hoyas went 23-9 this season before losing to Georgia Tech in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Brown spent 11 years as an AAU coach before coming to Georgetown in 2007.
