The condition of a 47-year-old Vancouver bicyclist who sustained life-threatening injuries April 27 in a collision with a minivan in Hazel Dell has improved from critical to serious, according to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

Kurt Lundeman was crossing Northeast Highway 99 west on his bicycle near Northeast 102nd Street around 8:30 p.m. when he was hit by a 2001 Mazda minivan driven by Jill Johnson, 47, of Vancouver, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said.

Lundeman was sent to PeaceHealth and remained in critical condition until this week.

Johnson stayed on scene and is cooperating with police.

Alcohol and speeding do not appear to be factors in the crash, the sheriff’s office said. The case is under investigation by the sheriff’s Traffic Homicide Unit.
