Still just a freshman, Alexa Efraimson is breaking school records for Camas every time she steps on the track.

On Friday at the Nike Jesuit Relays in Beaverton, Ore., Efraimson finished first in the 1,500-meter elite run with a time of 4 minutes, 23.41 seconds.

“I’ve really pushed myself to times I never thought I could reach until I was a senior,” Efraimson said. “It makes me realize how fortunate I am to have the talent I have and the capability I have. I hope it just gets better with time.”

Head coach Alisa Wise said Efraimson dropped about 10 seconds off her winning time at the Oregon Relays, April 21. It is also the second fastest 1,500 in the nation.

“To beat all the best runners from Oregon and Washington is a statement,” Wise said. “She’s such a special runner. I’m left speechless every time I watch her run.”

The Camas girls earned eighth place at the Jesuit Relays. Camille Parsons placed second in the traditional 1,500 (4:46.87), Lindsay Wourms finished fourth in the 3,000 (10:45.27) and Sydney Allen scored sixth in the triple jump (35 feet, 2 inches).

The Papermaker boys took 10th. Tucker Boyd (4:06.45) and John Doyle (4:10.44) were second and third in the 1,500. Josh Golden grabbed seventh in the 100 (11.56), Scott Feather finished seventh in the discus (135-5) and Josh Ryan secured seventh with personal bests in the long jump (20-7.75) and the triple jump (41-6).

The Camas girls defeated Columbia River 90-60 May 1, at Cardon Field to become league champions for the fourth year in a row.

Amber Corbett broke the school record in the shot put with a first place throw of 37-10. She also won the javelin (110-1) and took second in the discus (101-3). Her sister Nicole Corbett claimed first in the discus with a personal best throw of 108-1. Efraimson finished first in the 3,200 with a new school record time of 10:51.

The Papermaker boys came up short to Columbia River. Boyd (4:31), Alex Pien (4:32) and John Doyle (4:33) took the top three spots in the 1,600. Andrew Duffy (10:08.22) and Pien (10:13.52) went 1-2 in the 3,200. Ryan grabbed first in the long jump (20-1) and second in the triple jump (40-10).

The 3A district track and field meet is Wednesday and Thursday at McKenzie Stadium, in Vancouver.
