CHICAGO (AP) — Theo Epstein says the Chicago Cubs have narrowed the pool of potential selections for their first pick in the upcoming draft to about 10 players.

The Cubs have the No. 6 pick in their first amateur draft since Epstein became president of baseball operations in October. He says the draft is the most important thing the Cubs are working on right now and calls it “the most important day of the year for every organization.”

Epstein talked extensively about player development after he joined the Cubs, so there’s pressure on him to come away with a bumper group of prospects from the June 4-7 draft. He also was general manager of the Red Sox when they selected Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia and Clay Buchholz.
