EAGLE POINT, Ore. (AP) — The Eagle Point school district and union for striking employees say they were unable to reach an agreement in talks that ended Thursday night.

With classes canceled this week and no new talks scheduled until Tuesday, the district plans to reopen schools on Monday using substitutes crossing picket lines.

The district says it trained 65 substitutes Thursday in classrooms and increased security at picket lines after reports of harassment. Schools also will continue to provide transportation and meals for students.

The Eagle Point Education Association called for union members and supporters to gather Friday afternoon at the district office to ask for a fair settlement of class size and insurance issues.

The strike began Tuesday in the district that has 328 employees, including 186 teachers, for 4,100 students.
