Angels add C Hester, starter Iannetta has surgery

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels have purchased the contract of catcher John Hester from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Los Angeles made the move Friday, the same day starting catcher Chris Iannetta underwent surgery on his broken right wrist. Iannetta, who got hit by a pitch May 2, was put on the disabled list Thursday.

Bobby Wilson was the starting catcher Friday night in the opener of a three-game series in Texas.

Iannetta had been playing with the injury since getting hit during his first at-bat May 2. He stayed in that game, which was the night he caught Jered Weaver’s no-hitter against Minnesota.
