Clark earns split with Lower Columbia

T.J. Pruneda pitched a three-hit shutout and Casey Sawyer was 3 for 5 with two doubles and an RBI as the Clark College baseball team took the first game of an NWAACC West Division doubleheader at Lower Columbia 3-0 on Friday.

Lower Columbia returned the favor in the nightcap, holding Clark to two hits in a 4-1 victory.

Clark scored twice in the fifth and added an insurance run in the ninth to beat the Red Devils in the opener.

Bud Collura and Evan Pickett each had two of the Penguins 11 hits.

Pruneda had four strikeouts and two walks in the shutout.

In the second game, Pickett’s RBI in the fifth inning scored Jordan Van Atta for Clark’s only run.

Clark (22-16, 9-13) wraps up its season by hosting Lower Columbia (26-12, 16-6) at 1 p.m. Saturday in a doubleheader at Kindsfather Field.
