ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Pakistani military says the top American commander in Afghanistan has flown to Pakistan to speak with the army chief on operations in border areas.

The military said in a statement that a delegation led by Gen. John Allen arrived at Pakistani army headquarters in the northern city of Rawalpindi on Saturday and met with Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

The visit comes amid American efforts to rebuild ties after U.S. airstrikes that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers along the Afghan border in November. In response, Islamabad blocked U.S. and NATO supply lines running through its territory.
